Seasons at Québec & Chaudière-Appalaches

What to expect across the golf season.

Spring

Golf around Québec City and Chaudière-Appalaches typically opens in late April to mid-May, depending on snowmelt and ground conditions. The interior courses — those set in the rolling terrain south of the St. Lawrence toward Thetford Mines and Adstock — often carry wet fairways and soft lies well into May, which affects ball-striking conditions and can mean temporary greens early in the season. Fort-Prével near La Malbaie, situated further northeast along the St. Lawrence, may open a week or two later given its more exposed position and cooler microclimate. Daytime temperatures in May hover between 10°C and 18°C, with cool mornings that reward layers. Booking mid-to-late May gives travelers a reasonable expectation of firm, playable conditions across most of the trail. Off the course, Québec City's Old Town is far less crowded than in summer, making restaurant reservations easy and accommodation rates lower. The surrounding Chaudière-Appalaches region is scenic during apple blossom season, adding a pleasant backdrop to early-season rounds.

Summer

June through August represents the most reliable window for golf on this trail. Temperatures across the Québec City region and the Chaudière-Appalaches interior typically range from 22°C to 28°C, with occasional humid stretches in July. Courses play at their best during this period — fairways are firm, greens roll consistently, and daylight extends past 8 p.m. in June and early July, allowing for relaxed late-afternoon tee times. The parkland settings shared by most courses on this trail provide shade and visual interest through full foliage. Golfers based in Lévis or Québec City can access multiple layouts without long drives, while those willing to travel south find quieter, less-visited clubs like Bellechasse, Dorchester, and Golf Beauceville. Summer is peak tourist season in Québec City, so advance booking for accommodation is advisable. Festivals, markets, and outdoor dining are abundant, making evenings off the course easy to fill. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible in July and August but generally pass quickly.

Fall

September and into early October offer some of the most pleasant playing conditions on this trail. Humidity drops, temperatures settle between 12°C and 20°C, and the hardwood forests throughout Chaudière-Appalaches and the area around Adstock and Thetford Mines turn vivid shades of red and orange — a genuine draw for traveling golfers. Courses remain open through mid-October at most locations, though hours shorten and some facilities begin scaling back services after Thanksgiving weekend. Early morning rounds can be cold, with temperatures occasionally dipping near 5°C, so carrying an extra layer is practical advice. Fall is a strong value season: green fees at many regional clubs drop from summer peaks, accommodations are easier to secure, and the tourist crowds thin noticeably after Labour Day. The fall foliage drive along the south shore of the St. Lawrence adds an appealing non-golf component to a road trip. Golfers should confirm closing dates directly with each club, as they vary by year and weather.
