7-Day Golf Road Trip: Edmonton & Area

This seven-day circuit sweeps through Edmonton's urban core, the parkland corridors to the north, the links-style tracks to the south, and the resort courses flanking the city east and west. The route is organized to minimize backtracking while keeping nightly accommodation straightforward. Golfers arrive in Leduc, push north through Edmonton and out to Barrhead and Westlock, then loop back through Sherwood Park before departing. Fourteen courses and a compact geography make a full week of varied golf genuinely achievable.

Day 1

Arrival day. Fly into Edmonton International Airport and drive the short distance south to Leduc. Check in at Best Western Premier Denham Inn & Suites and shake off the travel miles with an afternoon round at Leduc Golf Club, a tidy par-71 parkland layout right in town. Book a late-afternoon tee time to keep the morning free for travel. After the round, head to Sawmill Prime Rib & Steak House in Leduc for a straightforward steak dinner before an early night. The plan tomorrow involves a links-style track before pushing into Edmonton proper.

Day 2

Morning check-out from Leduc, then drive a few minutes northeast to Nisku for a tee time at RedTail Landing Golf Club, an 18-hole par-72 links design by Puddicombe Golf that sits close to the airport corridor. The open, wind-exposed layout rewards patient ball-strikers. After the round, continue north into Edmonton and check in at a centrally located hotel. Evening is a good opportunity to visit RGE RD in Edmonton, a farm-to-table restaurant worth booking ahead. Two rounds are possible on longer summer days if energy allows; Lewis Estates Golf Course, a Bill Robinson and Geoffrey Cornish-designed par-72 parkland on the west side of the city, fits well as a late-afternoon add-on.

Day 3

Base out of Edmonton for a west-side day. Morning tee time at The Links at Spruce Grove, an 18-hole par-72 in Spruce Grove designed by the Robinson-Cornish partnership. After lunch, drive a few minutes further west to Stony Plain Golf Course, a par-72 Norman H. Woods parkland design in Stony Plain. For those who want a convenient overnight closer to tomorrow's northward push, Days Inn by Wyndham Stony Plain puts the golfer in a good position. Two parkland rounds with contrasting designs make for a full but manageable day.

Day 4

Head northwest out of Stony Plain to Cougar Creek Golf Resort in Spring Lake, a Bill Robinson-designed par-72 resort course. Book a mid-morning tee time. After the round, continue north on Highway 33 to Barrhead and play Barrhead Golf Club, a Les Furber-designed par-72 parkland — the same designer behind many of Alberta's better rural tracks. Barrhead is a longer drive but the course is worth the detour. Overnight in Barrhead or push on toward Westlock, keeping Day 5 efficient.

Day 5

Morning round at Westlock Golf Club in Westlock, an Alan Watt-designed par-72 links-style course that provides a different character from the parkland layouts of the previous days. After the round, drive south and slightly west back toward Edmonton. Afternoon golf is available at The Devon Golf & Conference Centre in Devon, a par-70 parkland track that plays shorter and suits a late-day relaxed round. Devon sits along the North Saskatchewan River valley. Overnight back in Edmonton or position west for the next morning.

Day 6

Full Sherwood Park day. Check in at either Four Points by Sheraton Sherwood Park or Sandman Signature Sherwood Park Hotel — both convenient to the cluster of courses east of Edmonton. Morning round at Northern Bear Golf Course, the Jack Nicklaus-designed par-72 parkland that is the marquee track in the area. Afternoon, if legs hold, Legends Golf & Country Club or Broadmoor Public Golf Course both offer accessible par-72 rounds nearby. Dinner at Bodega Tapas Bar or Vicky's Bistro & Wine Bar, both in Sherwood Park, rounds out the evening.

Day 7

Final morning round before departure. The Ranch Golf & Country Club, a Bill and John Robinson par-71 parkland in Edmonton, or The Quarry, a Les Furber par-72 also in Edmonton, both work as a closing loop back toward the airport. Coal Creek Golf Resort in Ryley — a Puddicombe Golf par-72 resort course southeast of the city — is another option for those routing toward the airport from the east side. Book an early tee time, finish by midday, and allow two hours to Edmonton International for departure. The Sherwood Park stay options, including Hampton Inn by Hilton Edmonton/Sherwood Park and Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Sherwood Park Edmonton, work as a final overnight if a very early flight is involved.
