Westlock Golf Club

Westlock Golf Club sits in Westlock, Alberta, roughly 100 kilometres north of Edmonton. Established in 1935, the course began as a seven-hole layout and grew steadily over the decades, receiving a significant renovation in 1977 and adding a second nine in 1991. Today it stretches to 6,701 yards over 18 holes, playing to a par 72 with a links-influenced design by Alan Watt.

The two nines present noticeably different characters. The front nine features wider fairways and large, undulating greens, with water hazards coming into play on eight of the nine holes. The Wabash Creek meanders through the property, shaping strategy and risk throughout the round. The back nine tightens considerably — narrower fairways and smaller greens reward precision over power. Two par 5s stand out. The fourth hole (547 yards) demands careful navigation with water flanking both sides of the fairway and guarding the approach. The 18th (543 yards) closes the round on a downhill run to a narrow green that punishes loose iron play.

At 6,701 yards from the tips, Westlock Golf Club presents a genuine test for single-digit handicappers while remaining accessible to mid-handicap players willing to manage risk on the water-laden front nine. The contrast between the two nines means golfers effectively experience two distinct moods in a single round — open and strategic on the front, disciplined and precise on the back.
