Westlock Golf Club

Westlock Golf Club sits in the town of Westlock, roughly 100 kilometres north of Edmonton, and has been a fixture of Alberta golf since its founding in 1935. What began as a seven-hole layout grew steadily over the decades, with a significant renovation in 1977 and a second nine added in 1991. Designed by Alan Watt, the 18-hole, par-72 course stretches 6,701 yards and blends traditional and links-style design elements across both halves.

The two nines play quite differently from each other. The front nine opens up with wider fairways and large, undulating greens, but water is a persistent factor — hazards come into play on eight of the nine holes. The Wabash Creek meanders through the property and shapes strategy on nine of the 18 holes overall. The back nine tightens considerably, with narrower fairways and smaller greens that reward precision over power.

A pair of par fives stand out. The fourth hole (547 yards) is defined by water running along both sides of the fairway and again on the approach — a genuine three-shot challenge that demands straight, disciplined play. The 18th (543 yards) closes things out with a downhill tee shot feeding into a narrow green that leaves little margin for error on the final approach.

Westlock Golf Club suits golfers who want a varied, water-influenced test rather than a straightforward parkland round. The contrast between the more generous front nine and the demanding back nine gives the layout a distinct two-act feel that rewards a return visit.
