7-Day Golf Road Trip: Cantons-de-l'Est

The Eastern Townships roll through Quebec farmland, lake country, and the flanks of Mont-Orford, giving golfers ten distinct layouts across a compact, drivable region. This seven-day circuit opens in Bromont, pushes east through Sherbrooke and the Coaticook-Stanstead corridor, loops north through the Orford resort cluster, and finishes at Owl's Head on the shores of Lake Memphremagog. The mix of Howard Watson parkland designs, Graham Cooke resort tracks, and shorter community courses suits golfers who want variety rather than a single signature destination. Base camps shift only three times, keeping driving between rounds manageable.

Day 1

Arrive in Bromont by early afternoon. A morning tee time at Club de Golf des Lacs — a compact par-43 layout in Bromont — makes a low-pressure opener after the drive in. The course's shorter format lets travellers shake off road stiffness without committing to a full par-72 round. Check in to either Hôtel Bromont or Hôtel Château-Bromont, both in town. For dinner, Brouemont – Microbrasserie & Restaurant is a sensible first-night choice, and Le Roux is an equally convenient Bromont option.

Day 2

Stay based in Bromont and head north to Waterloo for a morning round at Golf Waterloo, an 18-hole, par-72 parkland course. Tee off early to leave the afternoon free for settling back into Bromont, reviewing yardage books, or exploring the local area. The two Bromont hotels remain the overnight base. Brouemont – Microbrasserie & Restaurant works again as a relaxed evening stop, or Le Roux offers a slightly different atmosphere for a second night in town.

Day 3

Check out of Bromont and drive east toward Sherbrooke. Play a morning round at Golf et Académie Longchamp, an 18-hole, par-72 parkland layout on Sherbrooke's edge. After lunch, squeeze in an afternoon loop at Club de Golf Milby — a Howard Watson-designed, par-73 parkland course also in Sherbrooke — if legs and daylight allow; otherwise save it for the morning. Check in to OTL Gouverneur Sherbrooke. In the evening, Auguste Restaurant in Sherbrooke is the area's most notable dining address.

Day 4

With a Sherbrooke base, drive south to play Golf Val-des-Sources in Asbestos — another Howard Watson parkland design, par 72. A mid-morning tee time allows a comfortable drive out and back. If Day 3 did not include Milby, this is the morning to play it before heading to Val-des-Sources in the afternoon. Return to OTL Gouverneur Sherbrooke for a second night. Auguste Restaurant remains a reliable dinner option if not visited the previous evening.

Day 5

Check out of Sherbrooke and drive south into the Coaticook-Stanstead corridor. Morning tee time at Coaticook, an 18-hole, par-72 layout in Coaticook. After the round, continue to Stanstead-Est for an afternoon look at Golf Dufferin Heights — a Graham Cooke and Darrell Huxham design, par 72 — or simply drive it to plan a return visit. Head northwest to Orford and check in to Manoir des Sables Hôtel & Golf or Hôtel Chéribourg. Dinner at Pinocchio in nearby Magog is a straightforward stop on the way into the village.

Day 6

Two strong resort courses sit within minutes of each other in Mont-Orford. Play Club de golf du Manoir des Sables, the par-72 resort track attached to the hotel, first thing in the morning. After lunch, walk or drive across to Club de golf Mont-Orford, a par-72 parkland layout in the same town, for a late-afternoon round. Golfers staying at Manoir des Sables Hôtel & Golf have on-site convenience for the first course. End the evening at Bistro 4 Saisons in Orford, a short drive from either hotel base.

Day 7

Rise early and drive south to Mansonville for a morning round at Club de golf Owl's Head, the Graham Cooke and Darrell Huxham-designed, par-72 resort course overlooking Lake Memphremagog — a fitting final round given its setting. After the back nine, have lunch at the club before beginning the drive home. North Hatley is a natural stop on the way out of the region; Le Hatley at Manoir Hovey is worth a last lunch or early dinner if the departure schedule permits. The circuit ends having covered Bromont, Sherbrooke, and the Orford-Memphremagog corridor across ten distinct courses.
