3-Day Golf Road Trip: Hamilton & Area

This three-day loop suits mid-handicappers and course collectors who want varied parkland golf within a compact radius west of Hamilton. The anchor cities — Carlisle, Flamborough, and Jarvis — are all within roughly an hour of one another, making this a genuinely drivable circuit without long hauls between rounds. A Hamilton hotel serves as a practical base for two of the three nights.

Day 1

Arrive in Hamilton on Day 1 and get settled before the afternoon round. Check in to the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel in the city centre, which puts golfers close to the highway corridors heading north and west toward Carlisle.

From Hamilton, Carlisle is a short drive north, making it an easy first stop. Tee off mid-morning at the Carlisle Golf & Country Club: South Course, a parkland layout that is part of Carlisle's expansive 27-hole operation. The South Course plays to a par of 36, with rolling terrain that rewards course management over raw distance. After the round, if energy allows, add the compact Carlisle Golf & Country Club: North Course — a 9-hole, par-36 loop that makes a natural warm-down or sharpening exercise before heading back toward the city.

Back in Hamilton for the evening, The Iron Cow Public House is a reliable option for a post-round pint and a casual meal before an early night ahead of a full Day 2.

Day 2

Day 2 is centered on Flamborough and the chance to experience something genuinely different. Century Pines Golf Club, designed by Ted Baker & Associates, is a 12-hole parkland course in Flamborough that suits golfers who want to play at their own pace without the weight of a full 18. The par-72 rating means scoring is built into the routing in a non-standard way, making this a memorable and conversation-worthy round. Tee off in the morning to secure a relaxed pace through the property.

Golfers who want to stay closer to the Day 2 course should consider Flamboro Valley Camping Resort in Flamborough for a change of pace — it suits those travelling with an RV or who prefer an outdoor setting between rounds. Those who prefer to return to Hamilton can stay again at the Hampton Inn by Hilton Hamilton, a straightforward option with reliable amenities.

For dinner on Day 2, both Quatrefoil Restaurant and Namu are located in nearby Dundas and offer a step up in ambiance and cuisine quality — a good reward after a full day of golf. Symposium Cafe Restaurant Waterdown in Waterdown is a lower-key alternative if the preference is closer to the Flamborough corridor.

Day 3

Day 3 requires the longest drive of the trip — south toward Jarvis — but Sandusk Golf Club makes the journey worthwhile as a closing round. The 18-hole, par-70 parkland layout in Jarvis is a solid test that tends to play with a pace and character distinct from the Carlisle and Flamborough properties. Tee off early to leave time for the drive back north after the round.

Before or after golf in Jarvis, Devine's Restaurant & Catering is the local dining option on the data and worth noting for a post-round meal before heading home.

Golfers wrapping up the trip who prefer to overnight in Burlington rather than push back to Hamilton can check in to the Best Western Plus Burlington Inn & Suites, which sits conveniently along the QEW corridor and makes for an easier departure the following morning.

For those who played the South and North courses at Carlisle on Day 1 but didn't get to the third configuration, the Carlisle Golf & Country Club: East Course remains an option to slot in on the drive north out of Jarvis, rounding out the full Carlisle experience before the trip concludes. Ancaster Mill in Ancaster is a natural final dinner stop for groups heading back toward Hamilton or the 403 — a well-regarded dining room that closes the trip on a fitting note.
