3-Day Golf Road Trip: Greater Toronto

This three-day loop through the Greater Toronto Area suits mid-to-high-handicap golfers who want genuine variety — parkland, links-style, and challenge-track golf — without straying far from the 400-series highways. The anchor points are Brampton in the west, Milton in the south, and Pickering in the east, with driving time between each leg generally under an hour.

Day 1

Base camp is Brampton, home to the Lionhead complex. Check into Monte Carlo Inn Brampton Suites in the early afternoon, then head straight to Lionhead for a late-afternoon round on the Lionhead: Masters Course, an 18-hole par 72 that opens up enough on the back nine to shake off highway stiffness. An 3 p.m. tee time leaves room to finish before dusk in the long summer light. After the round, Mt. Vesuvio's Ristorante and The Keg Steakhouse + Bar – Bramalea are both straightforward dinner options in Brampton for a post-round steak or pasta without much fuss.

Day 2

Rise early and return to Lionhead for a morning loop on the Lionhead: Legends Course, the Ted Baker–designed par 72 that shares the property but plays a notably different character from the Masters layout. An 8 a.m. tee time gets the round done before the midday heat sets in. After checking out, the drive south to Milton takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes on the 401. Milton is the overnight anchor; Home2 Suites by Hilton Milton Ontario works well for golfers who want suite-style rooms with kitchen access, while Best Western Milton is the practical, no-fuss alternative. For those who prefer an outdoor option, Milton Heights Campground is available in the area. In the afternoon, if legs are still willing, Lynbrook Family Golf Centre in nearby Amaranth offers a par-27 executive layout — useful for short-game work or a relaxed evening loop with younger players in the group. For dinner in Milton, Ivy Arms covers the pub-and-pint crowd, Locanda handles Italian, and Marquee Steakhouse & Piano Lounge is the choice for anyone who wants a proper sit-down meal with some atmosphere.

Day 3

The final morning starts with a scenic detour north to Maple before the eastward push home. Kirby Links Golf Course in Maple is an 18-hole par-54 links-style layout — all par 3s — making it an efficient and genuinely engaging morning round that rarely takes more than two and a half hours to walk. Tee off around 8:30 a.m. and the group is back on the road by noon. From Maple, the drive east on Highway 400 to the 401 and out to Pickering runs approximately 45 to 55 minutes depending on traffic. Pickering Glen Golf Club in Pickering is the final full-length course of the trip — 18 holes, par 72, parkland design — and an afternoon tee time around 1 p.m. closes out the itinerary in proper fashion. Those extending the trip by a night should look at Pickering Casino Resort Hotel in Pickering, which puts guests close to the course and adjacent to the casino complex for post-round entertainment. Dinner at PORT Restaurant in Pickering rounds out the day with a waterfront option that fits the end-of-trip mood.
