Royal Niagara Golf Club: Old Canal Course

The Old Canal Course is one of three 9-hole layouts that make up the 27-hole Royal Niagara Golf Club, situated in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. Designed by Ted Baker and opened in 1999, the course stretches 3,553 yards from the tips and plays to a par of 36 across parkland terrain bordered by the historic Welland Canal.

Baker's design leans into the natural character of the site: sculpted fairways roll through the property, greens are notably undulating, and large bunkers guard landing zones and approach angles throughout the nine holes. Water hazards factor into several holes, adding strategic weight to club selection and course management. The proximity of the Welland Canal gives the routing a distinctive sense of place, framing holes with one of the region's most recognizable waterway landmarks.

At just over 3,500 yards for nine holes, the Old Canal Course suits a wide range of players — those looking to sharpen their game on a shorter loop, or visitors who want to combine it with one of Royal Niagara's other two nines for a full 18-hole round.
