About Chester Golf Club

Chester Golf Club occupies a striking piece of land on the Chester peninsula, where the fairways reach toward Mahone Bay and the harbour views are a near-constant presence. Founded in 1914 as a nine-hole layout, the club has since grown into a full 18-hole course designed by Stanley Thompson — one of Canada's most celebrated golf architects — making it one of the older Thompson designs still in regular play.

The course stretches to 6,100 yards from the tips, playing to a par 72 across parkland terrain that takes full advantage of its setting on Chandlers Cove. Holes along the water offer views across Chester Harbour and the island-dotted expanse of Mahone Bay, while the parkland sections bring tree-lined corridors and the contoured greens that are characteristic of Thompson's work. At par 72 and 6,100 yards, the layout is accessible enough for mid-handicappers while still presenting a measured challenge for stronger players.

Green fees running from CAD $60 to $80 place Chester among the more reasonably priced Thompson-designed courses in Atlantic Canada — a consideration worth noting given the pedigree of the design and the quality of the setting. The town of Chester itself is a well-regarded summer destination on Nova Scotia's South Shore, with sailing culture, independent restaurants, and the kind of unhurried pace that suits a golf trip built around more than just the round.
