Chester Golf Club

Chester Golf Club sits on the Chester peninsula in Nova Scotia, occupying a stretch of land along Chandlers Cove with views across Chester Harbour and the island-dotted waters of Mahone Bay. Originally opened in 1914 as a nine-hole layout, the club was later expanded to its current 18-hole configuration — making it one of the older operating courses in Atlantic Canada.

The course plays to a par 72 over 6,100 yards of parkland terrain, with the coastal setting adding both scenic value and strategic complexity. Holes running near the water contend with the open-bay winds that roll in off Mahone Bay, and the views of the surrounding islands serve as a constant backdrop. The parkland layout suits a range of handicaps, though the wind and the natural contours of the peninsula ensure that scoring requires attention throughout the round.

The course was designed by Stanley Thompson, the celebrated Canadian architect whose portfolio includes Banff Springs and Jasper Park Lodge. Thompson's characteristic use of natural landforms tends to reward thoughtful shot placement over raw power, and Chester's modest yardage reflects a routing that leans on its setting rather than length to create interest.

At green fees ranging from CAD $60 to $80, Chester Golf Club represents a reasonably priced round by Nova Scotia standards. The town of Chester itself is a well-established summer destination on the South Shore, with a working waterfront, sailing culture, and a cluster of restaurants and accommodations within easy reach of the clubhouse.
