Truro Golf Club

Truro Golf Club is a semi-private 18-hole layout situated in Truro, Nova Scotia, with roots stretching back to 1903, making it one of the older clubs in Atlantic Canada. Originally a 9-hole course, it was remodelled by Stanley Thompson in 1930, expanded to 18 holes in 1967, and renovated again in 1985 to reach its present configuration. The course now plays to a par of 71 over 6,339 yards.

The club was built largely on marshland, which shapes its character considerably. Water comes into play on 10 of the 18 holes, demanding accurate shot-making throughout the round. White sand bunkers add further definition to well-manicured fairways. The marsh-flat terrain keeps the course walkable — an increasingly rare quality on an 18-hole layout — making it an appealing option for those who prefer to carry or pull a bag rather than take a cart.

The combination of Thompson's original design sensibility, later refined by C.E. Robbie Robinson, gives Truro a course that rewards straight hitters more than big hitters. With water in play on the majority of holes, mid-to-high handicappers would be wise to bring extra balls, while lower-handicap players will find the routing a solid test of course management. The semi-private status means visitors are welcome, making it a reasonable stop for anyone travelling through central Nova Scotia.
