Speargrass Golf Course

Speargrass Golf Course sits on the banks of the Bow River in Carseland, Alberta, roughly southeast of Calgary. Designed by Gary Browning and opened in 2004, the 18-hole public course stretches to 6,709 yards from the tips and plays to a par 72. Its links-style layout draws on the surrounding native prairie landscape, giving it a character distinct from the tree-lined parkland courses that dominate much of the Alberta market.

The design offers six teeing grounds on every hole, making the course accessible to a wide range of handicaps while still presenting a genuine test from the back tees. The finishing stretch is the most scenic portion of the property: holes 17 and 18 are cut into the river banks themselves, framing the Bow River throughout. Golfers playing these closing holes can expect dramatic sightlines and the natural contours of the riverbank to come into play.
