River's Edge Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course located in Okotoks, Alberta, offering a championship layout alongside the Sheep River.
River's Edge Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 parkland course situated alongside the Sheep River in Okotoks, Alberta, roughly 30 minutes south of Calgary. The original South Nine, designed by Ed Englehardt, opened in 1994; a North Nine added in 2004 completed the championship layout at 6,967 yards.
The course is carved through the Sheep River valley and plays across three distinct elevations, giving it a varied, terrain-driven character uncommon in the surrounding flatlands. Fairways wind through the valley with the river as a constant presence — affecting wind, sightlines, and occasionally, the penalty for an errant shot. The standout moment arrives at the par-3 9th, nicknamed "Waterworld," where the green sits as an island completely surrounded by water, demanding a confident, committed tee shot.
River's Edge has earned enough respect to host provincial-level competition, including the 2010 Alberta Ladies Amateur Championship, which gives prospective visitors a sense of the course's conditioning standards and difficulty. At nearly 7,000 yards, it presents a genuine test for low-handicap players, while the parkland setting and valley views give recreational golfers plenty of reason to make the trip. Okotoks itself is a well-serviced small city with easy highway access from Calgary, making River's Edge a practical and scenic day-trip destination for golfers based in the region.
